I still remember my first phone call to Sprout. Where I was sitting, the time of day... I’d left a message for them while going down a list of pediatric occupational therapists in my area, feeling totally overwhelmed and trying to take some kind of concrete action where I felt otherwise helpless.  Dani, the owner, called me right back, and listened and advised and listened to me for 45 minutes.  Without prescribing or jumping to diagnosis, she had an idea which of her therapists we should see. I made a consultation appointment for the following week. It was the third stop on a whirlwind OT gym field trip.  I never went to the fourth. At the time my child only spoke to us and her long time nanny. Around others she was very internal and almost frozen by the “pressure” of new people and social interaction, and she was stuck in a web of challenging sensory sensitivities that had her at peak anxiety. It had been a tough day. But after 10-15 minutes in the gym, all that fell away and she started playing and talking to the therapist as though we were at home. They were connected. And there began a relationship that continues to this day. One that enabled my child to release and blossom and begin to live in her fullest self. That’s what Sprout does. They see your child, meet them where they are and take the time to build a trusting open space that then allows for remarkable expression and growth. Dani and her team have carefully and intentionally built a place where children feel understood and at home. Where they play their way back into their bodies and find their way through challenges into an empowering sense of accomplishment. This isn’t about checking boxes and gold stars. Yes, there are thorough reports and evaluations and excellent attention to all those details. But the invaluable part is about how you turn around one day and realize your child didn’t ask for help with that thing, or that they’re not avoiding that place, or that those days that felt so impossible have been happening less and less. Honestly, Sprout has given me as much as they’ve given my child, because they’ve helped me learn how to help her. And they’ve given her license and confidence to do it herself. Our family now has tools to reach for to navigate this world that I wish everyone could have. I feel so lucky—I wish everyone could grow up at Sprout
